Life Updates

Well, yesterday was my birthday and I certainly feel much older but that might just be the hangover. Overall, it’s been a good year though filled with many challenges. This was my first full year in Oklahoma after fleeing from Chicago with debtors chasing me all the way. Initially I thought that Oklahoma would not be a place for me to live happily, but really the old line about “anywhere you lay your hat is home” holds true. I have gotten the chance to reconnect with many old friends and to develop a full life, at least by my standards.

An uneventful day to be sure, in fact almost all of it was spent sound asleep. It had been a long week so I celebrated a bit last night with Andy and Lisa. Went to one of the great music joints of the world, Danny’s Blues Saloon. This place looks like the movie set of every roadhouse bar scene. Rough wood walls and floors surrounding a large dance floor filled with the gyrations of some of OKC’s eclectic night life. The band was Scott Keaton and the Deviants and they were hot with their standard cross of rockabilly, Texas blues and classic rock and roll. I had a few more than usual drinks and actually asked a woman to dance. God, it’s been a long time since I’ve done that. Nothing came of it, but was good to feel like I had a youthful life again.

OK, back in business. I’m finally starting to get into this whole management swing of things. It really is a great challenge and I hope I can live up to it.. I think the hardest part of the job so far is finally getting to the realization that I will no longer write much, if any, code. But hey, I’ve got this site for that. Really, I was feeling rather reticent when I first took the job, but I think this will be a position I might enjoy despite my loss of geekness. However, I never was a very good geek anyway, just ask anyone I worked with. ;)

Well once again I come to explain the complete lack of posting to the site. Once again, it has been really busy in my life, but that’s not the entire truth of it. I’ve been giving some thoughts to blogging. So far this blog has been a rather reactive communication form. I hear something that gets my blood a boil and I respond with vitriol and venom. While temporarily satisfying, when I go back to re-read these diatribes I find them to be aggravatingly unsatisfying. Therefore, I’m going to redefine this blog to be something much more personal and hopefully thoughtful. It is very easy for someone to say what they are against. It is much more strenuous and difficult to state what a man stands for and believes to be true. So at least on the politics/philosophy front, I’m going to use the blog to do some thinking about truth instead of lies.

Well, I’m sure by now I’ve chased off all of my frequent readers by my complete lack of posting. However, at long last I am emerging from the project from hell. I’ve spent the last month doing that which I hate most . . . hacking. However, I guess it’s pretty much over now and after a couple of drinks I should be able to assuage my guilt. So, I hope that the readers will return and I will not to have to perform another vanishing act.

Well here’s a first. I knew that I had missed Oklahoma weather. A tornado heading in my direction and I’m hunkering down in my bathroom. This is getting interesting. More soon . . .

Well here it comes, this might get very interesting!!!!! Everyone has been ordered into their shelters. Here it comes!!!!!!!!!!

Well they’ve given us a bit more time. Say I’ve got till 10:25 PM. Ten minutes and counting. This is nerve racking.
