I know I said that I was going to refrain from politics on the blog and so to break the rule on the next post is very bad form. However, I am quantifying this article as anti-political and so I am ignoring the rule. My friend Dylan started me on this path by way of a recent forum post he did so consider him the inspiration for my latest rant: The Death of Politics.

The Death of Politics

I have been feeling alienated from my former passion for all things political for some time now. I have a stack of unread newspapers by my door and an even larger stack of unread emails from the various political bodies that solicit me for my support. Two recent conversations have led me to wonder why those newspapers gather dust and those emails to waste space in my hard drive.

First, my friend Dylan (a.k.a. Cyberhobo, a.k.a. The Dutchman), challenged me on my first political post to my forums section. I had written a comment about the latest Democratic web campaign in which they portrayed George Bush’s Supreme Court nominees as mindless monsters intent on destroying the lives of Americans. Unfortunately, in the spirit of comradeship, he has removed the post but the gist was this: Responding to the various entities of modern politics is beneath me. It is a waste of time to worry about the ramblings of the various parties and that I should find something far better to consume my mind.

This insanity must stop! Convicted bomber Terry Nichols will die in prison. He will then be dispatched promptly to hell and spend the rest of eternity there. However, trying to speed up his departure by throwing millions of dollars at a trial that hasn’t even started in sheer stupidity. We have already spent 2.5 million dollars on a defense that hasn’t even made it to trial. Drop the charges and let the man rot. This is a waste of my money.

My friend Steven Anderson wrote this short, but concise response to this idiotic article. I thought you might enjoy it:

As an American I am tired of here all this anti American press about the war. I was against the war and I am still against it but it looks to me as if some of those people over there are happy we are there. Maybe I am just being brainwashed by the images I see on TV of Iraqi’s kissing the hands of American & British soilders, tearing down pictures and statues of Saddam while looting old Republic Guard stations, and beating uniformed soilder they beleive to be Fedienni (sp?) but I’m thinking we have had enough bad press about this war

Here’s a hell of a great quote from Brigadier-General John Kelley as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald:

“They stand, they fight, sometimes they run when we engage them, but often they run into our machine guns and we shoot them down like the morons they are.”

Well, I am really sick and tiered of war news. My father suggested that maybe we ought to go back to the MovieTone News system for war wherein it has to be at least one week before any war footage will be shown in the U.S. I think I’m on board for this system. This is not to say that I’m not excited to hear the news of the progress of the war. We continue to smash their “elite” Republican Guard at every turn and to split the city in two. However, the constant bombardment of ignorant, incomplete and idiotic coverage has gotten my blood pressure up to something like 200 PSI. I encourage the various news organizations to take the following piece of advice: To paraphrase Tom Lehrer, “If you don’t have anything to say, the least you can do is to shut up.”
