Southwest Roadtrip Digital Gallery

I just got back on Tuesday from a week long road trip to California for my good friend Dylan’s wedding so excuse the lack of posting. I am putting up the first gallery of pictures from the trip, these being taken exclusively by my little digital camera. This larger film galleries plus trip journal and photo commentary will be posted this week and next. [Read More]

OK, back in business. I’m finally starting to get into this whole management swing of things. It really is a great challenge and I hope I can live up to it.. I think the hardest part of the job so far is finally getting to the realization that I will no longer write much, if any, code. But hey, I’ve got this site for that. Really, I was feeling rather reticent when I first took the job, but I think this will be a position I might enjoy despite my loss of geekness. However, I never was a very good geek anyway, just ask anyone I worked with. ;)

I know I said that I was going to refrain from politics on the blog and so to break the rule on the next post is very bad form. However, I am quantifying this article as anti-political and so I am ignoring the rule. My friend Dylan started me on this path by way of a recent forum post he did so consider him the inspiration for my latest rant: The Death of Politics.

The Death of Politics

I have been feeling alienated from my former passion for all things political for some time now. I have a stack of unread newspapers by my door and an even larger stack of unread emails from the various political bodies that solicit me for my support. Two recent conversations have led me to wonder why those newspapers gather dust and those emails to waste space in my hard drive.

First, my friend Dylan (a.k.a. Cyberhobo, a.k.a. The Dutchman), challenged me on my first political post to my forums section. I had written a comment about the latest Democratic web campaign in which they portrayed George Bush’s Supreme Court nominees as mindless monsters intent on destroying the lives of Americans. Unfortunately, in the spirit of comradeship, he has removed the post but the gist was this: Responding to the various entities of modern politics is beneath me. It is a waste of time to worry about the ramblings of the various parties and that I should find something far better to consume my mind.

Well once again I come to explain the complete lack of posting to the site. Once again, it has been really busy in my life, but that’s not the entire truth of it. I’ve been giving some thoughts to blogging. So far this blog has been a rather reactive communication form. I hear something that gets my blood a boil and I respond with vitriol and venom. While temporarily satisfying, when I go back to re-read these diatribes I find them to be aggravatingly unsatisfying. Therefore, I’m going to redefine this blog to be something much more personal and hopefully thoughtful. It is very easy for someone to say what they are against. It is much more strenuous and difficult to state what a man stands for and believes to be true. So at least on the politics/philosophy front, I’m going to use the blog to do some thinking about truth instead of lies.

Well, it looks like they are going to try again. For the fourth time, an attempt is underway to adapt Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged for the screen. All I can say is good luck but I won’t hold my breath.

Well, I’m sure by now I’ve chased off all of my frequent readers by my complete lack of posting. However, at long last I am emerging from the project from hell. I’ve spent the last month doing that which I hate most . . . hacking. However, I guess it’s pretty much over now and after a couple of drinks I should be able to assuage my guilt. So, I hope that the readers will return and I will not to have to perform another vanishing act.
