Lost in OK

The OKC bike sharing program, Spokies, has announced where the first six kiosk locations will be placed. Spread out from Midtown to Deep Deuce to Bricktown and the Convention Center, the system seems well placed to provide easy transportation throughout downtown.

Memberships will range from $75 dollars for a full year to $5 for a day.  Rentals are free for the first 30 minutes and $2 for each half-hour after that.  You can get full details at their website, http://spokiesokc.com or by following them @SpokiesOKC on twitter.

Tulsa is doing a little bragging about their bicycle trail system and on paper, it seems well justified.  Unlike the OKC system, Tulsa’s seems well designed for both recreation and transportation which is a big bragging point.

It connects neighborhoods to downtown and that’s not the case in many cities.

Since 1999 the system has grown from just 25 miles to about 100, with a lot more trail work being planned.

In honor of Monty Maughan who passed away this week on the Lake Hefner route, OKC Velo Racing will be putting together an honor ride this Sunday at 1:00 PM starting from Stars and Stripes Park.  From the OKC Velo Racing Facebook page:

Spread the word that this Sunday at 1:00 p.m there will be a ride honoring Monty Maughan from Stars and Stripes Park. We will ride counter-clockwise on the Hefner trail to the dam where Monty passed. Stop briefly to reflect and then head out across the dam and west on Hefner. We will knock out about 30 miles or so, easy.  All riders from all teams, clubs, triathlon or anyone who just loves to ride are welcome.

One of the three cyclists injured in yesterday’s bicycle collision at Lake Hefner has died as a result of his injuries.  The rider, Bernard Monty Maughan, 68, was travelling westbound when he collided with two cyclists (of a group of four) travelling east.  From NewsOK:

The Oklahoman is reporting that three cyclists were injured tonight at around 7:00 PM on Lake Hefner dam:

About 7 p.m., four bicyclists were traveling east at the Lake Hefner Dam when a 70-year-old man bicycling west collided with two of them, Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Lara O’Leary said.

We’ve been stuck in town for way too long so we took a long weekend to head to Dallas for a concert and a few days in the big D. Alex and Gwen had never ridden a train, so we took the Heartland Flyer there and back which let me get some good industrial decay photos.

For the second day, we spent a very pleasant and rainy afternoon wandering around the Dallas Museum of Art.

For the last day, we had a nice leisurely brunch followed by a stroll around the Dallas World Aquarium and then a lunch with Grace’s brother before heading back home. The vacation was a great time and a much needed break from the routine.

I was still struggling along with this project hoping to break free of the photographic doldrums that I’ve been toiling in. In a couple of days I headed to Dallas for a little get away which did a lot to help this lethargy, but it’s still hard keeping up.
