Lost in OK

I just feel the need rant and this will probably mean nothing to most of my readers, but to any VB.NET programmers, do not assume that string functions are case-insensitive. I’ve spent about 2 days debugging code looking for this mysterious problem that was preventing users from logging into my system. Turns out that a long departed coder made the assumption about the case of the URL and was using the IndexOf function to make a decision about the status of a user. VB.NET, for the first time in the VB world, is a real and powerful language and it’s string functions don’t make such assumptions. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! I need a drink . . .

Let’s just say that I haven’t been in the posting mood, but I’ve owed Savrx a reply on his comment on On Being American for the last week. On your first point, you are, in reality, correct but not correct in terms of justice. Yes we have created a great many laws that have endowed our citizens with privileges (a right cannot be granted, only prevented) that are not granted to those without citizenship. However, with the exception of some public official requirements and definitions of responsibilities of the courts, the Constitution makes no mention of the term “Citizen” including the original http://www.house.gov/Constitution/Amend.html. I do not think that this was an accident on the part of the Founding Fathers but a sign of their wisdom. This is why the recent Enemy Combatant rulings are such an atrocious miscarriage of justice. If you want my honest opinion, each time we pass a law that grants special privileges to citizens we lose a part of that identity which has made us so special and great.

There was a very cold and misty night here in town last week. I happenened to be doing some late night work that evening and was inspired after the toil to go for a little photographic wandering through downtown. So the next twelve days will be a series of photographs from that wandering.

Sorry for the lack of a photo yesterday. I was in the middle of a very long day and when it was over I wasn’t much in the mood for posting. However, I’ve got the next two weeks of pictures ready to go.
