Lost in OK

The wind was blowing across the lake at 30-40 mph and with the amount of lake bed exposed, the dust in the air was quite impressive.

This year I’m chairing a subcommittee for the 2012 Tour de Cure ride in Mustang.  This ride raises critical funds for diabetes research and advocacy through the American Diabetes Association.  Diabetes is a major health risk in Oklahoma.  In fact, according to Kaiser Health, in 2010 over 10 percent of Oklahoma’s population have been diagnosed with diabetes.  This is a situation that needs your help!

The Tour de Cure will happen on June 23rd, 2012. Routes for the next tour are still being determined, however they will include 10 mile routes through metric centuries.  However, this is a perfect time to sign up and start raising funds.  If you sign up and donate at least $15 dollars to your self before the end of October you will get a free “in training” t-shirt!  Sign up by clicking here today!

I tweeted about this during the last OBS meeting, but the OBS is putting together a great bicycle oriented fundraiser for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.  On November 13th, cyclists will be given seven locations and seven items to pick up.  At each pick up, riders will be given a playing card.  Best poker hand at the end of the ride gets the grand prize.  All riders are welcome, just bring a bike and a bag.  You can get full details here.

Actually, as I reported on twitter, it officially opened last Tuesday, but I haven’t had a chance to go by and take some pictures.  However, the bridge looks great and the road surface is smooth as silk.  I have to admit I’m going to have a little nostalgia for the old days of hopping over giant holes in the pavement.  Not very much, but a little.  Below are a few more pictures of bridge:

It was Friday night and I just didn’t have a picture. I resorted to futzing with pictures of my lampshade out of desperation.

The old Route 66 Overholser Bridge has been closed for the last year which has made cycling around the lake very difficult. Thankfully, the restoration job on the bridge finished last week and I got to experience the new bridge myself this weekend!

There’s a rule that you never get good news at the dentist. At best, you get the news that everything is fine. This time I learned that I’ve worn down a molar to the point where I need a crown. Oh what fun!

There are some days for which wish you could hit delete and remove from existence. Today was one of those. Nothing bad or terrible, but just nothing good either. However, the fabulous meal from Grace when I got home did wonders my mood.

So a few days back I commented on how I was having difficulty finding shots during long work days. My dear friend Dylan (AKA The Cyberhobo) suggested taking a macro look at the world around me and it has been a great reminder of the little details you can miss.
