Just came across this great list of tips for a happy cyclist. Here are a few of my favorites, but there are some great gems in there:
Don’t ride in shoes you can’t walk through an antique shop in.

Never blame your bike or your health or anything else if you’re the last one up the hill or in to the rest stop.

If you pass another rider going up a hill, say more than “Hi,” but if it’s a woman and you aren’t, don’t assume she wants to chit-chat. Treat her as you’d have a generic guy-rider treat your wife/daughter/girlfriend.

Well, Smurfette isn’t really dead, but as of today she’s no longer my sole bicycle. As of today, I’ve got this beautiful new Surly Long Haul Trucker in my garage. She’s the same color but a much different personality which puts me in a quandary as to what to name her. Smurfette II just doesn’t seem right . . . Any ideas? I’ll buy a drink for the person with the best idea. ;)
[Read More]So, following up on the request for information I posted earlier, it appears the cyclist in question was involved in an apparent hit and run crash.
About 8:15 a.m., a passer-by reported a bicyclist in a ditch in the 12600 block of N Midwest Boulevard, just north of NE 122, Patty said.
The bicyclist, identified only as a white male, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
“This appears to be a hit-and-run,” Patty said.

I was just notified to a mishap involving an un identified rider. OKC Police are needing assistance in identifying a rider. Please contact OKC POLICE if you think you know this rider as he had no id on him.

Here’s a wonderful video on the basics of “vehicular cycling”. If you are going to be out there on the roads, especially here in OKC where you will be a rarity on the road, this kind of knowledge is critical for getting around safely . . .
